Julia Vorobyeva has captivated audiences with her delicate artistry, refined technique, and memorable interpretations of leading classical and contemporary roles. Throughout her distinguished performing career, she danced principal roles in numerous ballets, including Giselle, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Macbeth, Spartacus, Romeo and Juliet, and The Sleeping Beauty. Her repertoire also included George Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante, Concerto Barocco, Who Cares?, and Raymonda Variations, as well as Sylvia Pas de Deux and many other works by acclaimed choreographers.
Ms. Vorobyeva received tremendous critical recognition for her performances. Her portrayal of the title role in Esmeralda with New Jersey Ballet was praised by renowned The New York Times dance critic Anna Kisselgoff.
Her professional journey began in Moscow at the world-famous Bolshoi Ballet Academy, where she earned a degree as a Ballet Artist. She continued her education at the Bolshoi Institute of Choreography, earning a bachelor’s degree in Ballet Pedagogy.
As a principal dancer with Moscow Classical Ballet and Russian State Ballet, Ms. Vorobyeva toured internationally and performed on some of the world’s most prestigious stages, including the Bolshoi Theatre and the Vienna State Opera. In 1998, she joined New Jersey Ballet, where she continued her career as a principal dancer.
As an educator, Ms. Vorobyeva is recognized for her exceptional ability to inspire and connect with today’s young dancers. Her extensive professional experience, thorough knowledge of ballet technique, and individualized approach have helped students grow both technically and artistically. Many of her students have been accepted into prestigious dance programs, arts schools, and professional companies.
In 2011, Ms. Vorobyeva and her husband, Konstantin Dournev, founded the nonprofit Academy of Dance and Creative Arts, Inc. and Duet – School of Ballet. She also created international summer ballet programs and the Catskills Ballet Camp, providing young dancers with intensive training, performance opportunities, competition experience, and scholarship opportunities.
Under Ms. Vorobyeva’s leadership, Duet students have earned numerous competition awards and have been accepted into selective New York City arts schools, including Mark Twain Intermediate School, Bay Academy, and Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.
In 2018, Ms. Vorobyeva and Konstantin Dournev founded Jewels Festival, a ballet and dance competition created to support, inspire, and provide new opportunities for young performers.
Since 2022, Ms. Vorobyeva has continued to develop and expand Jewels Festival together with her business partner, Albert Davydov. As a strong artistic and executive team, they are taking Jewels Festival beyond the traditional competition experience by creating year-round educational and performance opportunities for young dancers. These programs include Ballet Intensives, the Online Master Classes platform, and a full-scale production of The Nutcracker featuring selected Jewels Festival competitors.
